Create variants: video for PIM for Shopware 6
Variants in seconds, not hours: Colours and sizes with PIM for Shopware.
What the video shows
- Open the product from the list.
- Variants are built from properties.
- Properties on the left, their options on the right.
- Tick three colours.
- Plus three sizes.
- 3 colours × 3 sizes = 9 variants.
- Nine variants, each with its own product number.
At a glance
One product, every colour and size
In the video, a single product is opened from the list. Variants are built from properties: the properties are listed on the left, their options on the right. Three colours and three sizes are ticked, which gives 3 × 3 = 9 variants.
Each variant automatically gets its own product number. You define the pattern for it yourself, and the same goes for the variant name. If you want to equip several products at once instead of one, use the "Generate variants" tab in bulk edit.
Features in detail
Properties and options side by side
The selection is split in two: properties on the left, options on the right. One search field covers both, and a summary shows how many combinations your selection produces.
Patterns for number and name
By default the number follows {parentNumber}-{options} and the name {parentName} {options}. Variables such as {firstVariantNumber}, {option1} to {option3}, {group1}, {group2} and {counter} build your own scheme.
Order decides {option1}
When several properties are selected, the PIM shows their order. It determines which option ends up in {option1}, {option2} and {option3}.
No duplicates
Before generating, the PIM checks the existing variants of the product. Combinations that already exist are not created a second time.
Typical use cases
- Creating a new clothing item in all colours and sizes.
- Adding another colour to an existing product line without duplicating the existing variants.
- Giving variants meaningful product numbers that match your ERP system.
Frequently asked questions
How many variants do three colours and three sizes give?
Nine, one for each combination, each with its own product number.
Can I define the product number scheme?
Yes, with patterns built from the variables {parentNumber}, {firstVariantNumber}, {parentName}, {options}, {option1} to {option3}, {group1}, {group2} and {counter}. The default pattern is set in the config matrix and can be overridden per product.
Does this also work for several products at once?
Yes. In bulk edit, the "Generate variants" tab creates variants for all selected products in one pass.
