Shopware data quality: find products without image or description
Missing images, empty descriptions, products without price or meta data: the PIM dashboard shows the gaps in your catalogue, and the product list filters lead straight to the affected products.
- The PIM dashboard bundles KPIs, top issues, stock status and completeness distribution.
- Every issue leads to the filtered product list via "Fix".
- Quality filters find products without cover image, description, EAN, meta texts, main category or translation.
- A completeness score per product with adjustable weighting.
Data quality in standard Shopware
Shopware shows you what is in a product, but not what is missing. The product list in the standard admin has no filters such as "without description" or "without meta description", and there is no overview of catalogue completeness. Anyone who wants to know how many products in the shop lack a cover image therefore usually exports a spreadsheet and counts there. By the time the gaps are fixed, the export is already out of date.
Checking Shopware data quality with the PIM dashboard
You find the PIM dashboard in the Stone & Water menu. It loads the KPIs of your catalogue and groups them into areas:
- KPI cards: total products, active and inactive products, variants, average completeness, new products of the last 7 days, price range, products without price, without images, without description, without SEO data and without categories. Which cards appear is set in the config matrix.
- Top issues: sorted by severity and count, for example active products without visibility in a sales channel, products without categories, short descriptions or duplicate EANs.
- Stock status: active products out of stock, low stock, inactive products with stock and the ten products with the lowest stock.
- Analysis: top manufacturers by share of the range, price distribution, completeness distribution, recently changed and least complete products.
Quality filters in the product list
The filters of the PIM product list go beyond the dashboard: cover image for parent products and for variants, images, description, EAN/GTIN, SEO completeness (no meta title, no meta description or both), completeness score, missing translation per language, price missing or 0.00, RRP missing or below the gross price, missing main category and "Not maintained since" more than 30, 90, 180 or 365 days. Frequent queries are stored as quick filters or presets.
Step by step: improving data quality
- Review the starting point: open the PIM dashboard and note the average completeness and the top issues.
- Set thresholds: in the config matrix, Dashboard tab, adapt the limits for low stock and short descriptions as well as the score weighting to your catalogue.
- Pick an issue: click "Fix" on the most important item. The product list opens with a matching filter.
- Refine and save the filter: narrow the selection further, for example to one manufacturer, and save it as a preset.
- Correct in bulk: use bulk edit with the preset as the source, for example for AI texts, categories, main category or visibility.
- Check progress: refresh the dashboard and move on to the next issue.
Tips from practice
- Check before the feed: otherwise missing EANs, images or descriptions only show up in Merchant Center or at the price portal.
- Take duplicate EANs seriously: the same EAN on several products causes mix-ups in feeds and marketplaces.
- Inactive with stock: deactivated products with goods in stock are tied-up capital. The dashboard lists them separately.
- Track down old records: the "Not maintained since" filter finds products nobody has touched for a long time, a good starting point for price and text maintenance.
- Define required fields: in the config matrix you mark fields of the detail view as required, so new products are not created with gaps in the first place.
- Use approval: with the approval workflow a second person reviews new or changed products before they go live.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I find the PIM dashboard?
In the Stone & Water menu of the Shopware admin under "PIM Dashboard". Whether the dashboard button is visible is controlled by a visibility switch in the config matrix.
Can I adjust the thresholds?
Yes. In the config matrix, Dashboard tab, you define from which stock level a product counts as low (default 5) and below how many characters a description counts as too short (default 50).
How is completeness calculated?
The score checks whether fields such as name, description, price, EAN, manufacturer, cover image, meta texts, categories and properties are maintained. You set the weighting in the config matrix.
Are variants taken into account?
Yes. The PIM resolves inheritance from the parent product, so a variant with an inherited image does not count as "without image". There is also a separate filter for variant cover images.
Can I fix gaps directly?
Yes. A click on "Fix" or on a KPI opens the product list with a matching filter. From there you go into bulk edit, for example for AI texts or categories.
