DATANORM import for Shopware 6

Read supplier data in DATANORM format 4.0 and 5.0 straight into Shopware - without converting through Excel first.

Key facts
  • DATANORM 4.0 and 5.0 are read directly in the Shopware admin, without a detour through converters and Excel.
  • Arbitrary volume endings from .001 to .999 plus record types for long texts and prices (DATPREIS).
  • Preview and dry run show new, updated and skipped before anything is written.
  • Protection against external systems keeps the maintained state of the product texts per language and restores it when a connected integration overwrites it.

In the building materials, plumbing and electrical trade, DATANORM is the usual way to exchange article data between supplier and retailer. Shopware does not know the format. Typically the file therefore goes through a converter first, then Excel, then into the shop as CSV - with every source of error that three intermediate steps bring. The PIM plugin reads DATANORM files directly in the Shopware admin.

What is supported

  • DATANORM 4.0 and 5.0 - version 5.0 brings its own field layout for name, price and EAN, which is handled separately
  • Arbitrary volume endings from .001 to .999, as suppliers assign them for multi-part deliveries
  • Additional record types for long texts and prices (DATPREIS)
  • Preview and validation before writing, with a dry run and counts for new, updated and skipped

Workflow

  1. Upload the file or enter a URL
  2. Check the preview - record types are detected and mapped
  3. Choose the import mode: update only, create only, or both
  4. The dry run shows the volumes before anything is written
  5. Real import with progress bar and log
No full reindex: imports use Shopware's queue indexing, so only the imported products are reindexed asynchronously. The former reindex of the entire catalogue after every import is gone - with large supplier lists that is the decisive difference.

Protection against overwrites from external systems

Anyone importing supplier or ERP data regularly knows the problem: the next run overwrites the product texts you carefully maintained. If this data arrives through a connected integration (for example an ERP via the Shopware API), the external system guard keeps a reference state of the texts and restores it as soon as it is changed from outside. Selectable languages and the fields name, description, meta title, meta description and keywords are protected. Changes by logged-in users - including a DATANORM import in PIM - are not touched. A log reports what was restored and can be downloaded as CSV. Details: External system guard.

Alongside: CSV with multilingual support

For everything that does not arrive as DATANORM, the CSV import is ready with column mapping, data type detection and a column convention for translations - translations appear as separate columns per sales channel and language in the format trans_<channel>_<language>_<field>. Details are in the CSV import and export documentation.

What's next

The manual describes all importable fields; how to correct imported data in bulk afterwards is covered under bulk edit Shopware products.
