Shopware tier prices: percent instead of fixed amounts

Maintain Shopware tier prices without recalculating every quantity tier after each price change: in the PIM you enter a tier's discount in percent, the PIM calculates the price, rounds it according to your rule and remembers the percentage. For many products you define the tiers in bulk edit.

Key facts
  • One tier group per price rule with gross, net and savings in percent per tier.
  • The PIM creates the row from quantity 1 with the base price automatically and keeps it up to date.
  • Automatic updates when the base price changes in master data and in the variant window, with selectable rounding.
  • In bulk edit: define tiers, link or release tiers and add the row from 1.

Tier prices in standard Shopware

Shopware stores tier prices per price rule as fixed amounts for quantity ranges: from 10 items 9.50 euros, from 50 items 8.90 euros. If you raise the base price, these amounts stay as they are. The discount you actually wanted to give is then no longer right, and in the worst case a tier is above the new base price. On top of that comes a storefront detail: Shopware reads the tiers of a price rule as a complete price table. If the row from quantity 1 is missing, the storefront shows the price of a single tier as the normal unit price.

Maintain Shopware tier prices with the PIM

Tier groups per price rule

In the detail view you create a tier group with "Add tier" and choose the price rule. If the right rule is missing, you create it directly with name and priority; conditions are maintained in Shopware's rule builder under Settings → Rules. Each tier has the columns from quantity, gross, net and savings in percent. If you enter the savings, the PIM calculates the price from the base price. If you enter a price, the savings follow. Below the group there is a summary with the number of tiers and the range of savings.

The row from 1

Above the tiers sits the fixed row from quantity 1 with the product's base price. The PIM creates it automatically when saving and updates it when the base price changes. If you remove the last tier of a group, the row from 1 disappears as well.

Percent as target value

Every tier edited in the PIM remembers its discount in percent as a target value, stored on the tier itself. If "Update tier prices automatically" is enabled in the config matrix (default: off), the PIM recalculates the tiers from this target value whenever the base price changes. This applies while editing in master data and in the variant window. Changes from bulk edit, imports or external systems do not trigger the update.

Rounding

How calculated tier prices are rounded is set in the config matrix: "Exact (to the cent)" is the default, so that a 25 percent discount really is 25 percent. Alternatively the PIM rounds to the endings x.00, x.50, x.90, x.95 or x.99 and deliberately deviates a little from the percentage. The setting appears under products and under variants; the value applies to both.

Variants

If a variant has no tier prices of its own, those of the main product apply. With "Transfer to variants" in the tier price section you copy the main product's tiers to all variants, and in bulk edit you do this for many products at once.

Tier prices for many products

  • Define tiers: you choose a price rule and enter tiers with quantity and discount in percent. Existing tiers of this rule are removed, the new ones are calculated from each product's base price. Other price rules remain untouched.
  • Link or release: "Link" stores the percentage from the distance to the base price for existing tiers; the amounts stay the same. "Release link" removes the stored percentage.
  • Tier row from 1: adds the missing row from 1 for all selected products and their variants and updates existing ones to the current base price. This runs automatically when transferring and linking.

When a product is duplicated, the tier prices of the main product and all variants are copied as well. Tier prices are not available as CSV columns.

Step by step: define volume discounts for a range

  1. Choose rounding: set the rounding in the config matrix and decide whether tiers should update automatically.
  2. Filter products: narrow down the product list, for example to one category, and save the result as a preset.
  3. Open bulk edit: choose the preset as the source and switch to the "Prices & stock" tab.
  4. Define tiers: under "Tier price link" choose the mode "Define tiers", the price rule and the tiers, for example 5 percent from 10 items and 10 percent from 50 items.
  5. Run: check the summary and start the run. The row from 1 is added automatically.
  6. Spot check: open some products in the detail view and check savings and rounding.

Use cases

  • Price increase: raise base prices via bulk edit and then rebuild the tiers from the new base price with "Define tiers". More on price runs in the guide bulk change Shopware prices.
  • Dealer prices: create a separate price rule for dealers and maintain a second tier group there.
  • Fix the unit price error: repair shops with only one tier and no row from 1 in one go with "Tier row from 1".
  • Even prices: choose rounding to x.95 so that tier prices look like selling prices.

Frequently asked questions

Do tier prices update automatically when the price changes?

Yes, if "Update tier prices automatically" is enabled and you change the base price in master data or in the variant window. After bulk edit, import or an external system you rebuild the tiers with "Define tiers".

Why does Shopware need a tier row from 1?

Shopware reads the tiers of a price rule as a complete price table. If the row from 1 is missing, the storefront shows the price of a single tier as the normal unit price. The PIM creates the row automatically.

How are calculated tier prices rounded?

Exactly to the cent by default. Alternatively you choose the endings x.00, x.50, x.90, x.95 or x.99 in the config matrix.

Do the main product tier prices apply to variants?

Yes, as long as a variant has no tier prices of its own. With "Transfer to variants" you copy them to all variants if needed.

Can I import tier prices via CSV?

No. Tier prices are not CSV columns. You maintain them in the detail view or, for many products, via bulk edit.
